The LMMSA board is directed by passionate high school students who strive to make positive changes in their community through music. Their diverse backgrounds and unique experiences contribute to the success of each and every event.
Board
President
Paul Wang
Paul is an 12th grader at Handsworth Secondary School. From winning CMC in 2017 to being the Overall Winner at the Steinway Piano Competition in concerto and solo categories in 2023, he has amassed many other outstanding musical achievements. He also has piano students in the North Shore area, and is the co-president of the Handsworth Music Club. Outside of piano, he earned a distinction in the John Locke International Essay Competition at Oxford in 2023 and is a member of Rowing Canada Aviron and Deep Cove Rowing Club.
Vice President
Flora Tu
Flora is a 10th grader at Burnaby North Secondary School. The musical awards she has accumulated throughout the years range from receiving scholarships and top scores at her local Langley Community Music School to placing first at Kiwanis music festivals. Outside of piano, she was also a volunteer at Calvary Church and is one of Vancouver Debate Academy’s teaching assistants. Recently, she has developed an interest in debate that placed her in the top 3 teams at the 38th Stanford Invitational, and the champion team and top speaker at LME regionals.
General Secretary
Dorant Wu
Dorant is an 12th grader attending Handsworth Secondary School. Dorant aims to act as an active conduit for communication, a manager of databases, and a record keeper for the organization. Outside of LMMSA, he participates in community service, such as contributing in coordinating and supervising children’s summer camps and volunteering at running events across the year. He is also a passionate badminton player and coach and an umpire for Badminton BC.
Director of Finance
Channing Chen
Channing has a deep-rooted passion for finance and business that spans several years, currently holding the role of Chief Executive Officer at British Columbia’s annual Beyond Business Case Competition, in addition to serving as the President of the Central Business Club. He also placed 2nd at BCIT’s 2022 case competition. Outside of the business world, Channing serves as the President of the BC Junior Chess Organization, and is the President for Central’s chess club, music club, and writing club.
Director of Marketing and Social Media
Muriel An
Muriel is a 11th grader at Handsworth Secondary School who has been consistently academically excellent, obtaining numerous subject awards through her school career. Muriel is also actively participating as a grade 10 representative in the student council. She communicates her ideas and opinions freely during meetings and advocates the concerns of her peers to improve the school community. In LMMSA, she is dedicated to fostering a sense of community among music students, promoting their talents, and creating a vibrant online presence that resonates with a wider audience.
Social Media Coordinator
Alice Zhou
Alice is an 12th grader studying at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School. She has collaborated with multiple orchestras in performing piano concertos, including the Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra and the West Coast Symphony Orchestra. She has also won several awards in the Kiwanis Music Festivals and the Steinway Competition, while also being a part of the Steinway Young Artists’ Club. Apart from piano, Alice enjoys playing the violin and horseback riding.

Elim Yu
Elim Yu is a 10th-grade student at FHSS in Surrey, BC. She has completed her RCM examinations for violin and won first prizes at Kiwanis Music Festivals and other local festivals, advancing to the BC provincials for Junior Strings, where she achieved runner-up. Elim studies at Langley Community Music School and has been a member of the Surrey Youth Orchestra since 2018, winning the 2024 Concerto Competition alongside other scholarships throughout the years. In addition to music, Elim leads the nonprofit ArtLift, supporting young artists, and is active in public speaking and community outreach initiatives such as Nightshift.
Senior Home Coordinator
Kevin Shim
Kevin is an 12th grader at Handsworth Secondary School. He serves as the Vice-President of his school’s Math Club. Beyond Kevin’s academic pursuits, he contributes to the community by actively engaging in numerous school clubs including First Responders team, and a student-led organization dedicated to alleviating the homeless crisis in Vancouver. Additionally, he participates in environmental initiatives including garbage pick-ups, and volunteering in local events such as the Sun Run and BMO Run. His multifaceted involvement reflects a well-rounded and devoted individual.

Caleb Wang
Caleb is a 12th-grader at Sentinel Secondary School. He currently works as the founder and current leader of Sentinel’s Photowalk Club. Caleb was recently recognized for his skills when he was announced as one of the three winners of The Polygon’s Chester Fields 2024: Mythmakers, a competition between young photographers from all over Vancouver. As an extremely passionate photographer, Caleb is excited to continue polishing his skills and furthering his abilities as an artist.
Music Pedagogy Director
Jamie Cai
Jamie is an 11th grader in the Byng Arts Mini School Program at Lord Byng Secondary School. He has had a notable list of achievements and first prizes in competitions such as CDMF and Kiwanis, just to name a few. He has collaborated with the West Coast Symphony Orchestra, has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, took part in numerous prestigious music programs such as the Vancouver Piano Sessions and the Interlochen Arts Camp. Apart from piano performance and practice, Jamie loves to express his music through teaching piano and music theory/ear training to numerous young students and performing at senior homes and community centers. Additionally, he has excelled in all RCM courses from an early age and is currently studying advanced piano pedagogy. Outside of piano, Jamie plays clarinet as a secondary instrument in his school senior wind ensemble and senior symphony orchestra and attained remarkable academic achievements.
